About

"there is a loneliness in this world so great that you can see it in the slow movement of the hands of a clock"
- Charles Bukowski

There are 24 hours in a day, and 365 days in a year, we all have the opportunity to do something amazing, and if things don't work out today, we always have the option of starting over tomorrow.

I am grateful for:
second chances.
fresh starts.
shooting stars.
smiles.
warm hugs.
cold hardwood floors on winter mornings.
butterfly kisses.
belly laughs.
good friends.
my life.

what are you thankful for?
what makes you smile?
what is your passion?
I'd really like to know.

p.s. hello, my name is ashley and this is a glimpse into the madness that is my mind.

From the series “Silence” by José Pedro Cortes

This is one of those pieces of work that was just born to form a publication. When I was leafing through the book at the PhotoIreland book fair, I just wanted to stick it in my bag and run.

Silence” has that same quality that attracts me to Nan Goldin’s work and it instantly reminded me of a less dense version of her volume “The Devil’s Playground” which I’m proud to say, sits happily amongst other treasures on my photobook shelf.

What gets to me more than anything though is the little quote/tagline that appears on the top of the site.

“I’m always looking from the distance, in between presence and absence.”

When you frame your opinion based around this sort of sentiment, the whole body of work seems to slow down and you get a much better feel for the captured moments presented here. The most engaging aspects of these snapshots is the personable nature of the imagery. There’s nothing shown here that you wouldn’t come across in your own life on a daily basis and it’s this exact thing that draws you in further. Whether it’s the ochre toned domestic scenes or a moment of tenderness shared between a couple, there’s something here that keeps your eyes fixated just a little longer than usual, something that whispers to you “familiar”.

I love this.
